Category Manager/Buyer


Due to continued growth, we are seeking a Category Manager/Buyer to join our highly professional and successful team in the following Categories:

  • Shop & DIY e.g Paint & Décor, Garden & Horticulture, DIY, Seasonal

This is a great opportunity to work with some of the best retailers in Ireland. Attention to detail and a proficiency at building and developing effective relationships with suppliers and stakeholders in the business is required.

Location: Oranmore, Co. Galway.

Role: Permanent Full Time



  • Work with the Category Management team to develop short and long-term plans for categories
  • Develop strong business relationships with our existing supply base and source new suppliers
  • Negotiate with suppliers to achieve best price and margin for products and insuring they abide to quality and service guarantee
  • Play a leading role in the management of supplier selection
  • Thorough analysis of purchase and sales information
  • Drive and deliver cost saving opportunities and/or projects aligned with organisation commitments
  • Collaborate with members to ensure engagement and buy-in to strategic purchasing
  • Identify new market trends and implement actions to capitalise on those trends
  • Evaluate the performance of suppliers
  • Identify and co-ordinate bulk purchase opportunities
  • Determine competitive recommended retails and negotiate strong promotional activities
  • Develop category expertise, maintain market intelligence and stay abreast of the changing supply base
  • Create, develop and deliver regular category updates for management and members
  • Be the first point of contact for suppliers and members for specific categories
  • Respond and resolve queries from suppliers and members in a timely manner
  • Other ad-hoc duties and projects as required



  • Strong negotiator with excellent influencing and networking skills
  • Solid knowledge of category management, marketing and sales principles
  • Excellent MS Office Skills with the ability to analyse and manipulate data to meet reporting needs
  • Possess an understanding of the market place
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing purchasing strategies that have yielded measurable business results
  • Ability to think in terms of possibilities and create a clear vision and strategy
  • Possess influencing skills and ability to build relationships and credibility across the organisation
  • Ability to get things done, multi-task, act with a sense of urgency and be results focused
  • Willingly takes on varied roles to achieve objectives
  • Be self-motivated and have the ability to prioritise work and work on own initiative
  • Combine excellent communication and interpersonal skills with high level of attention to detail
  • Have strong reasoning, judgement and logical decision-making skills
  • Have a strong analytical mind and be process focussed
  • Highly organised with good planning skills and the ability to manage cross functional category projects to meet deadlines
